Khan Academy

Blog Entry: Khan Academy

This blog entry is about a tool in Dr. Wang’s PPT about previous T3PP results, specifically, Khan Academy, listed under online learning and instructional support tools. I chose this technology because I have used it in school before and found it very helpful for reviewing and practicing math concepts.

Khan Academy is a free online learning platform that provides instructional videos, interactive exercises, and personalized learning dashboards. It covers a wide range of subjects including math, science, reading, and history. Students can learn at their own pace, while teachers can assign lessons and track progress through built-in reports.

Ease of Use:
Khan Academy is easy to use for both teachers and students. The website has a clean layout, and lessons are organized by grade level and topic. Students can log in using a Google account, and teachers can easily create classrooms, assign content, and monitor student progress. The automatic grading feature saves teachers time, especially when assigning practice problems.

Versatility:
This tool is extremely versatile. While it is best known for math instruction, it can also be used in science, reading, and test preparation. Students can watch videos, take quizzes, and receive instant feedback. It works well for in-class practice, homework, or self-paced learning. Teachers can also use Khan Academy for differentiated instruction, allowing students to work on individual skill levels while still engaging with class content.

Classroom Application:
Although I plan to teach younger students and prefer to use hands-on, paper-based learning, I can still see ways to incorporate Khan Academy for early learners. For example, I could use it as a supplemental activity for students who finish their work early or as a resource for parents to use at home. It can also help reinforce foundational math and reading skills through interactive visuals and guided explanations.

Connection to Course Concepts:
This week we discussed the TPACK framework, which emphasizes the balance between Technological, Pedagogical, and Content Knowledge. Khan Academy connects directly to this framework by supporting teachers’ content delivery (especially in math and science) through effective technology integration. It enhances pedagogy by offering differentiated learning paths, allowing teachers to adapt instruction to meet each student’s needs while maintaining strong content focus.

  1. Hi Abilene! Your entry on Khan Academy was super informative and really helped me see how I can use it in my future classroom. I really like the aspect of auto grading assignments, as it would help take that off my plate and give me more time for other tasks.
