Google hangout

This blog entry is about a tool in Dr. Wang’s PPT about previous T3PP results. Specifically, Google Hangouts in the software list. Google Hangouts is a free communication tool from Google that allows users to chat, make voice calls, and have video meetings. It can be accessed online at https://hangouts.google.com.

Google Hangouts makes it easy for teachers and students to stay connected. Teachers can hold virtual classes, check in with students, or collaborate with other educators. Students can use it to meet for group projects or get help from the teacher. It works on computers, tablets, and phones. Here’s an image showing what a video chat looks like on Google Hangouts:

Ease of Use:

Google Hangouts is very user-friendly. It connects with Gmail and Google Calendar, so joining a meeting is as easy as clicking a link. The layout is simple, and there’s no need to download anything if you’re using a computer.

Versatility:

This tool is versatile because it can be used for many purposes like virtual office hours, online tutoring, small group meetings, or classroom discussions. It’s also useful for remote learning and keeping communication open between teachers, students, and parents.

Likelihood of Using It in My Classroom:

I would likely use Google Hangouts in my classroom to meet with students outside of regular school hours or to connect with guest speakers from different places. It’s also great for group projects and collaboration when students can’t meet in person.

Connection to Course Concepts:

This week we learned about the TPACK framework, which focuses on combining technology, pedagogy, and content knowledge to enhance teaching. Google Hangouts connects to the technology part of TPACK because it helps teachers deliver content and interact with students through digital communication. It also supports the pedagogical side by allowing flexible and collaborative learning beyond the classroom.

Overall, Google Hangouts is an easy and helpful tool for building classroom communication, supporting teamwork, and extending learning beyond school walls.

  1. Hi Abilene. I thought you informed about Google Hangout quite well. I honestly did not even know that this tool even existed. I like that it does connect with Gmail and Google calendar. Those are two very common tools used by teachers. Using this technology would be effective because it requires just clicking a link to access. It seems similar to Zoom, but honestly better. I like that it does connect with multiple applications of Google for easier access. I would use this application over Zoom. Thank you for sharing.
